Our Journey to Canada

More than 30 years ago, our family left London, England, to begin a new life in Canada. Like many newcomers, we arrived with hopes for the future, but also with questions, decisions to make and a great deal to learn about how life in Canada actually works.

Moving to a new country involves much more than finding somewhere to live or getting a job. There are unfamiliar systems to understand, financial decisions to make, schools and communities to become familiar with, and everyday situations that can be surprisingly different from what you're used to.

We learned much of this through experience, by asking questions, speaking with people and gradually finding our way. Looking back, we realized how valuable it would have been to have practical, reliable information available at the right time.

What We Learned Along the Way

Starting again in a new country taught us that settling in Canada isn't one big decision. It's hundreds of smaller ones — finding somewhere to live, understanding how things work, building careers, raising a family and gradually creating a new sense of home.

Over the years, we learned that good information at the right time can make an enormous difference. Knowing what questions to ask, where to look for reliable answers and what to deal with first can prevent costly mistakes and make the transition considerably easier.

The Story Behind Success in Canada

Success in Canada grew from our own experience of starting again in a new country. Over the years, I realized that many newcomers face the same kinds of questions we once faced, often while making important decisions with very little local knowledge.

Since 2004, our work in short-term rental hosting and property management has brought us into contact with people from many countries and backgrounds. Through conversations with newcomers, we've had opportunities to hear their questions, understand their concerns and share practical information about settling into life in Canada.

These experiences, together with our own journey, inspired me to develop Success in Canada as a place where newcomers can find straightforward information, practical resources and guidance to help them make informed decisions with greater confidence.
